Earlier this month, members of Congress left after GOP members of the Senate largely refused to support a package that contained an expansion of the child tax credit, along with several business-oriented tax breaks. The child tax credit portion aimed to make the credit more helpful for lower income taxpayers by gradually making more of the credit refundable. The bill also would have increased relief for both natural and man-made disasters.
We asked two professors and authors of ALM’s Tax Facts with opposing political viewpoints to share their opinions about Congressional Republicans’ most recent vote to block re-expansion of the child tax credit.
