Hong Kong-based Prime Pacific has produced a new edition of a free international health insurance guide aimed at professionals who want to work or retire outside their home countries, and employers that want to provide health coverage for expat employees.

The broker includes snapshots of many markets that are popular with expats, including China, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, Mexico and the Netherlands.

Many clients these days may want to try living abroad, at least temporarily. The new Pacific Prime report can give you and your clients about how the private health insurance markets in other countries are doing.

The authors note, for example, that:

  • The COVID-19 pandemic led to a 59% increase in private health insurance companies' premium revenue, and increased use of telemedicine services.
  • Insurers in Mexico are having trouble paying claims quickly because they're having problems with holding onto claim processing employees.
  • The Netherlands will ban "discounts on collective medical plans" — price breaks on group health coverage — starting Jan. 1, 2023.
