Mutual of Omaha has put a lion in its new corporate logo. The Omaha, Nebraska-based insurer unveiled the new logo Thursday.

The previous logo featured the image of a Great Plains Indian chief. Mutual of Omaha announced in July that it would be moving away from use of Native American imagery in its logo.

"Our new logo reflects our company's mission and values while representing the commitment we've made for more than a century to helping people protect what's important to them," the company said in a comment about the new logo, which was included in the logo unveiling announcement.

Mutual of Omaha has been the sponsor of a popular wildlife television show, Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, and the company said the new logo reflects that heritage, as well as the concepts of protection and strength.
