The Invest in Others Charitable Foundation presented five awards from Sept. 21 to Sept. 25 as part of its 14th annual Invest in Others Awards celebration, which was held virtually this year.

Invest in Others provides a platform for financial advisors to increase awareness and funding for their favorite nonprofits. The awards recognize financial advisors across five categories for giving back to nonprofits in their communities.

By award category, These were the winners, by award category:

  • Catalyst Award: Lynette Atchley of CPA Financial Advisors Inc. in Riverside, California, for Rebirth Homes
  • Community Service Award: Duane Chaney of Arch Capital Advisory Group of Raymond James in Fort Myers, Florida, for Lee Health Foundation
  • Global Impact Award: Michael J. Martin of ELM Wealth Management at Raymond James in Worcester, Massachusetts, for Be Like Brit
  • Volunteer of the Year Award: Brian Robinson of UBS Financial Services in Tampa, Florida, for The Florida Dream Center.
  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Lynn L. Chen-Zhang of Zhang Financial in Portage, Michigan, for Western Michigan University Foundation

Although they are typically presented at an in-person gala in Boston, this year's awards were presented on video every day during the third week in September. Top sponsors were Advisor Group, Allianz, Cetera Financial Group, Fidelity Investments, LPL Financial, Merrill and Natixis Investment Managers.

"While this year's award presentation may look a little different, we're thrilled to continue to recognize the ways that advisors give back to their communities," Megan McAuley, executive director and president of Invest in Others Charitable Foundation, said in a statement.

"Thanks to the support of the financial services industry, we are tremendously proud to have increased the award donations for all finalists and winners, and we hope this will make a meaningful difference in a year where so many nonprofits are struggling financially."

The statement noted that the foundation was able to increase donation amounts for each charity by $5,000 this year. A total of $45,000 was donated to each winner's designated charity, with the exception of the Lifetime Achievement Award winner, whose charity received a $55,000 donation.

In addition, 10 finalists received donations of $15,000 to each of their charities.

Fund-Raising Project

Separately, Invest in Others runs a Grants for Change program that gives advisors the chance to obtain grant funding for charities that work to provide life-changing opportunities for underserved communities and communities of color.

Through this grant program, which launched in August, members of the financial services industry can secure up to $25,000 for charities that provide essential services to causes such as social justice, employment and education.

Grant applications will be accepted through Nov. 9, and winners will be announced by Dec. 14.

Industry executives David Canter of Fidelity and Eric Clarke of Orion recently ran the virtual 2020 Boston Marathon on behalf of Invest in Others, with the goal of raising $50,000 in donations to support Grants for Change. Online donations are being accepted for the program through Oct. 2.
