During the COVID-19 pandemic, we asked readers to vote for the top 25 industry VIPs in very uncertain times — and 1,770 of you did, casting 44,250 total votes. This was the third time in the 18 years of the IA25 recognition program that your choices determined who made the list.

Because of the unusual and incredible situation we find ourselves in today, we combined the different categories (broker-dealer, clearing and custody, RIA/advisory, fintech, investing and regulation/compliance) into one overall voting list. In addition, we eliminated individuals with whom financial advisors have very limited access.

We also asked the winners to share insights into how advisors can best serve their investor clients during the COVID-19 crisis and to explain how they are working from home and making other adjustments to their personal and professional lives. (Nearly all the winners kindly did so.)

It's worth mentioning that two of the IA25 winners had the same number of votes. We counted them as one winner, and they appear first in the interviews that follow.

In addition, we have three honorable mentions:

  • Alan Moore, CEO and co-founder of XY Planning Network and of AdvicePay;
  • Tom Nally, president of TD Ameritrade Institutional; and
  • Skip Schweiss, managing director, Retirement Plan Services & Advisor Advocacy for TD Ameritrade Institutional, and president of TD Ameritrade Trust Company.

Finally, several write-in nominees captured a good number of votes, and we'll include as many of them as possible on next year's IA25 ballot.
