Great American and Illinois Mutual Reach Out With Contests

At least two life insurers are sponsoring contests this winter.

Great American Insurance Group — an annuity issuer — is asking annuity customers to send in photos, videos and stories showing what makes their lives great.

Illinois Mutual Life Insurance Company is asking people to send in photos for a "Moments Matter" contest.

The Great American Contest

Great American is bringing back a new version of a Live Your Life GREAT contest the company ran in 2018.

In 2018, the Cincinnati-based company asked annuity users for photos and received about 500 photos, including a photo of someone swimming with dolphins.

This time, the company is accepting videos and written stories as well as photos.

Submissions are due March 31.

If Great American uses a photo, it will pay the person who submits the photo $100.

A grand prize winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Cincinnati.

Donna Carrelli, divisional vice president of annuity marketing services, said in a comment about the contest that Great American hopes the contest will lead to people thinking about their retirement goals.

"By sharing their photos, videos and stories, our customers may help others visualize their own retirement and consider how an annuity can help support their goals and income needs." Carrelli said in the comment.

The Illinois Mutual Contest

Illinois Mutual is using charitable contributions to attract consumers to its contest.

The Peoria, Illinois-based mutual life insurer is asking consumers to send in personal photos of a treasured moment in time, with an explanation of why that moment matters.

Illinois Mutual will accept photos for the contest from Feb. 14 through Feb. 29.

For the participants who send in the top 10 photos, Illinois Mutual will make a charitable contribution to the charity of the participant's choice. The prize contribution amounts will range in size from $200 for the photos ranking from sixth through 10th, up to $1,500 for the top-ranked photo, Illinois Mutual says.
