John Rugel to Run Global Atlantic's New Business Service and Operations

Global Atlantic Financial Group is bringing in an Allstate Financial and American General alumnus to make things work.

The New York-based annuity issuer, life insurer and reinsurer has hired John Rugel to be the company's chief operations officer.

Rugel, who will be based in Hartford, Connecticut, will be in charge of all in-force and new business insurance service and operations, Global Atlantic announced Monday.

Rugel has a bachelor's degree in business from the State University of New York at Albany, according to his LinkedIn entry.

Rugel spent 15 years in underwriting roles at American General, then ran brokerage underwriting at MetLife.

He moved to Allstate Financial in 2011. When he left, in September, he was senior vice president of life and annuity operations.

He recently stepped down from a post as a board member of the Life Insurance Council of New York.

Global Atlantic was founded with support from Goldman Sachs in 2004 and became an independent company in 2013. Its subsidiaries include Accordia Life and Annuity Company, Commonwealth Annuity and Life Insurance Company, Forethought Life Insurance Company and Global Atlantic Re Ltd.
