Life Happens has signed Brooke Shields to be the spokesperson for the 2019 Life Insurance Awareness Month campaign.

Life Happens has been holding the awareness month campaign every year since 2004.

Shields, an actor, will succeed Danica Patrick, a racecar driver, as the awareness month spokesperson.

Shields learned about the importance of having life insurance firsthand, when she served as the executor of the estate for a friend who died without having a will, according to Life Happens.

"Life insurance has given me peace of mind that, no matter the circumstance, my family is financially protected now and in the future," Shields said in a statement about her thoughts about life insurance. "This isn't anything I was taught growing up. It's a life lesson I learned on my own and want to share with others."

Life Happens says it will present Shields' story in a national TV and radio public service announcement program.
