The Maine Bureau of Insurance is asking consumers, insurers and other interested parties to tell it how they think long-term care insurance (LTCI) is working today, and how LTCI might work in the future.
The bureau plans to start a public forum on LTCI at 10 a.m. May 9 in the Augusta Civic Center, according to a forum announcement.

"What is needed to improve LTC insurance consumer protections and claim practices?"

"What is the future of LTC insurance?"

Forum organizers are also asking for ideas about what more can be done to encourage consumers to plan for long-term care needs.
The forum could influence LTCI policy discussions outside Maine: Eric Cioppa, the Maine insurance superintendent, is the secretary-treasurer of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), a group for state insurance regulators. The NAIC recently started two LTCI subgroups.
