NAILBA Updates Itself

HOLLYWOOD, FLA.–The National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies has completed a strategic overhaul in the past year so that it could better focus on advocacy, education, networking, member benefits and membership growth, it was announced at the association's annual meeting here.

The association also introduced a new program for brokerage principals and executives, called the NAILBA Executive Forum, chairman Gary S. Dworkin announced.

The new forum joins another program for agency staff, called the NAILBA Agency Management Institute, added Dworkin, who is a brokerage general agent with DAI/LifeMark, Rochester, N.H.

In addition, the association has created a Chairman's Award to recognize outstanding volunteers.

Keynote speaker Dan Pink, Washington, D.C., stressed that, with today's level of economic disruption, financial innovation is needed more than ever. Such work will be done by the right brain–artistic, inventive, innovative work–and it will be at a premium in the future, he predicted.

Pink, author of A Whole New Mind: Why Right Brain Minds Will Rule the World, said among the abilities that reflect the high-concept and high-touch aspects of right-brain thinking is design thinking or design literacy.

"You can't be in business without it," he said. "Everything in business has at its heart a design decision."

Along with its other changes, NAILBA debuted a new logo at its meeting. It also went live with a new website design at www.nailba.org, where the new logo can be viewed.

The moves reflect that the association is now well recognized, and "we no longer have to explain who we are," Jack Chiasson, executive director of NAILBA, told meeting participants.

The meeting drew over 1,000 attendees and over 115 exhibitors.
