The boomer population is aging, and as more of them attain retirement age, communities across the country are going to have to adapt to their older citizens’ needs.
To provide aid to community leaders, MetLife Foundation funded “A Blueprint for Action: Developing a Livable Community for All Ages,” which was based on findings from “The Maturing of America” study, conducted by the International City/County Management Association and the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging.
The “Blueprint,” produced in collaboration with n4a and Partners for Livable Communities, provides counties and cities with detailed strategies, practical tools and proven solutions they can use to prepare for the coming age wave. The solutions cover the areas of housing, planning and zoning, transportation, health and supportive services, public safety, civic engagement, culture and lifelong learning. The focus is to let older Americans age in place.
