The Employee Benefits Security Administration has posted answers on Web to "frequently asked questions" about a major legal settlement.[@@]
EBSA, an arm of the U.S. Department of Labor, worked with officials in New York, Tennessee, Maine and other states to negotiate a 2004 settlement affecting consumers who have filed disability claims with UnumProvident Corp., Chattanooga, Tenn., after Jan. 1, 1997.
Regulators arranged the settlement to resolve complaints that UnumProvident may have been too quick to deny some claims and too quick to reduce benefits payments when it accepted claims.
