The U.S. Department of Labor wants to fill 5 seats on the 15-member employee welfare and pension plan advisory council.[@@]

The council helps the secretary of labor carry out duties related to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974.

One of the council members whose terms expire in November represents the insurance profession, and another member represents employers, according to a notice by Ann Combs, a Labor Department official, that appeared Thursday in the Federal Register.

The other council members whose terms are expiring represent the accounting profession, the general public and employees who belong to multiemployer benefit plans.

Council members serve 3-year terms, and the council meets at least 4 times a year.

No more than 8 council members can be members of the same political party, Combs writes in the notice.

Instructions for recommending candidates for council positions to the Labor Department are on the Web at //a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/06jun20041800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/2004/pdf/04-19002.pdf
