IRS Extends Voluntary Disclosure Program Deadline for Third-Party Payers

The IRS has announced an extension for third-party payers to use the employee retention credit (ERC) voluntary disclosure program (VDP). The deadline for these third-party payers is now December 31, 2024. Third-party payers who report and pay their clients' employment taxes may have also filed their ERC claims. If the client wishes to withdraw the ERC claim because they question its validity, the payer must actually withdraw the claim. The IRS has implemented a consolidated process so that third-party payers can withdraw some clients' ERC claims while maintaining those of qualifying clients. For other taxpayers, the deadline for the VDP was November 22, 2024. For more information on the employee retention credit, visit Tax Facts Online. Read More: Link to Q8555. Note: Q is updated.
