The American College of Financial Services is launching a donor-advised fund professional certificate program.

The in-person training program aims to empower staff at DAF-sponsoring organizations to create a shared standard of knowledge and competency for the industry, according to the announcement. Registration for the inaugural edition, to be held April 8 and 9 at The Adolphus Hotel in Dallas, is now open on the American College website.

Attendees will learn the “complete picture” of day-to-day DAF program management via educational sessions on the evolving philanthropic landscape. The sessions cover such topics as understanding motivations to give, identifying assets to donate, managing gift acceptance and effective grant-making principles.

Other topics include investment strategy alignment, building strong relationships, planning for succession of funds and DAFs as part of estate planning. The curriculum will include 12 to 15 hours of instruction, along with networking opportunities.

“Building a shared understanding of DAF management and application ties deeply to the College’s mission of applied knowledge, dating back to our founding in 1927,” George Nichols III, president and CEO of the American College, said in a statement.

Nichols added that the new DAF professional certificate program “takes what’s in a textbook and brings it to life,” so DAF professionals can apply their learnings immediately.
