ThinkAdvisor will host a (friendly) tax policy debate next week between Professors Robert Bloink and William H. Byrnes, the main authors behind Tax Facts.

As they often do in written form, the pair will analyze and debate key tax policies that can be expected to affect wealth managers and their clients. This time, they’ll be looking at the potential outcomes of various tax policies being promoted by President-elect Donald Trump and Republican congressional leaders, including the extension of key elements of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.

Among the policies up for debate are:

  • Restoring the unlimited deduction for state and local taxes, reversing a controversial TCJA provision.
  • Making the 20% deduction for qualified business income permanent, while reducing corporate tax rates further.
  • Restoring 100% bonus depreciation to boost capital investments.
  • Ensuring the higher estate tax exemption remains permanent beyond its 2026 expiration.
  • Locking in current tax rates, brackets and the expanded standard deduction while maintaining the personal exemption suspension.
  • Introducing an itemized deduction for auto loan interest.
  • Assessing the unchanged trajectory of the required minimum distribution age increases under SECURE 2.0 Act.

This engaging debate will offer insights into how these changes could affect individuals, businesses and estate planning strategies.

Don’t miss the opportunity to hear from two leading tax experts and prepare for what’s ahead in 2025. Those interested in attending the Dec. 11 webcast can sign up here. It will also be available for replay on demand.
