Shannon Benton is the longest-serving employee of The Senior Citizens League (TCSL), having joined its staff in 1999 following a 12-year career as a medical corpsman in the Army. She currently serves as the group's executive director and is responsible for overall day-to-day operations of the non-partisan advocacy organization.
In this episode of the Ask the Retirement Expert podcast series, ThinkAdvisor Senior Reporter John Manganaro speaks with Benton about the important mission of the Senior Citizens League, whose members consist of active senior citizens concerned about the protection of their Social Security, Medicare, and veteran or military retiree benefits.
Benton offers her perspective on the cost-of-living crisis facing today's retirees, with a special focus on the Social Security program and its failure to keep benefits in line with inflation. She also discusses the results of the League's ongoing Loss of Buying Power Survey, the results of which have been widely reported and used by policymakers to inform their positions.
