A Wells Fargo office worker found dead at her desk in Tempe, Arizona, in August — four days after scanning in around 7 a.m. on a Friday — died of natural causes, the Maricopa County medical examiner has found.
Denise Prudhomme, 60, succumbed to "sudden cardiac death in the setting of myocardial fibrosis" of unknown origin, the office recently posted on its website.
Myocardial fibrosis involves scar tissue buildup in the heart muscle.
A co-worker discovered Prudhomme on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at her desk in a cubicle in a large office building that most employees don't visit daily due to remote work, a local TV news station reported at the time.
The union-backed Committee for Better Banks has started a petition spurred by Prudhomme's death, calling the situation "only the most tragic example of Wells Fargo's giving lip service to our well-being while demonstrating its persistent disregard through its actual policies and actions."
A online statement with the group's petition, dated last month, said the committee is "saddened and outraged by the devastating tragedy and loss of our coworker," a business execution consultant in corporate banking.
"Like so many of us who work in corporate offices or call centers, our team members and direct supervisors are frequently located in other states hundreds, or thousands, of miles away," the group, which seeks to unionize Wells Fargo employees, said.
