EP Wealth Buys $1.1B RIA in Atlanta

CEO Ryan Parker says the acquisition of CornerCap Investment Counsel establishes an important hub in the Southeast.

EP Wealth Advisors has acquired CornerCap Investment Counsel, an Atlanta-based wealth management firm with $1.1 billion in client assets.

The newly acquired RIA delivers wealth management services to clients throughout the Southeast U.S. and is led by CEO Cannon Carr.

“CornerCap has served the Southeast region for 35 years, continuously pursuing innovative solutions for our clients,” Carr said in a statement. “As part of EP Wealth, we’ll have enhanced resources to continue doing so for a growing client base that values commitment and care.”

EP Wealth CEO Ryan Parker cited CornerCap’s commitment to client service and an alignment of core business values as key drivers of the acquisition.

“EP Wealth focuses on people when partnering with firms, and CornerCap is a talented group who will be a great addition to our team,” Parker said. “Their values align with ours, and the partnership establishes an important Southeast hub as we continue on our path to becoming a single, nationwide RIA with extensive offerings and resources.”

Post-acquisition, Carr will assume the role of regional director, joined by Richard Bean and Tom Quinn, who take on the roles of senior vice president and senior wealth advisor, respectively.

Additionally, Jeff Moeller joins as director of quantitative research and Catharine Sanders joins as director of segment marketing — along with 12 staff members with expertise in advisory, investments, financial planning and client service.

The acquisition is the fourth for EP Wealth in 2024 and its 33rd since 2017, according to the announcement. The firm managed more than $26.2 billion in assets as of July 31.
