Suffice to say, Raphael Bostic’s day job is an important and challenging one.

As the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and a voting member of the Fed’s Federal Open Markets Committee, Bostic is tasked with providing the public and policymakers with a clear-eyed view of U.S. and global economic conditions.

The work involves both top-down and bottom-up economic analysis conducted in collaboration with his fellow Fed bank presidents and FOMC members, culminating in regular votes to determine exactly what path U.S. monetary policy will take. Tighter conditions can help in the fight against inflation, but overly restrictive policies can lead to recessionary pressures.

On this episode of the Ask the Retirement Expert podcast, ThinkAdvisor Senior Reporter John Manganaro speaks with Bostic about the outlook on inflation and interest rates — with a special focus on the implications for retirees.

During the episode, Manganaro and Bostic also discuss:

  • The importance of retirement trends to economic stability.
  • Why Bostic and his bank are committed to closing wealth gaps.
  • What retirement might look like for future generations, and more.
