RFG Advisory has appointed Shannon Spotswood as its next CEO, taking over the role from Bobby White, who moves into an executive chairman role.

Spotswood confirmed the appointment in a LinkedIn post, noting that she is "humbled and excited" to be taking on leadership of the $5 billion hybrid RIA platform. She has been the firm's president since early 2016.

"I'm extremely proud of what we have built to date and look forward to what the future holds," Spotswood wrote. "We are just getting started, and I'm laser focused on ensuring we continue to build enterprise value for our advisors, helping them to grow their business without compromise."

Before her time at RFG, Spotswood spent 20 years in institutional finance, including as a portfolio manager and director of long-only equity strategies for San Francisco-based hedge fund Symphony Asset Management. Before that, she was an investment banker with Volpe Brown Whelan & Co.

Spotswood started her career as a research analyst and junior trader for EGM Capital.

"Everything that we do at RFG is centered around providing advisors with technology and solutions that help them deepen their client relationships, grow organically and scale their businesses to create enterprise value," Spotswood told ThinkAdvisor in a recent interview.

Spotswood said that both her firm and the broader independent advisory industry are undergoing an unprecedented amount of change and evolution — especially when it comes to maintaining high levels of organic growth.
