Million Dollar Round Table continues to use the need to sell to bring the world together.

The Park Ridge, Illinois-based group for top life insurance and annuity sales professionals is gathering thousands of members in Vancouver, British Columbia, this week for its latest annual meeting. The event started Sunday and is set to end Wednesday.

Participants are coming from more than 50 countries. Speakers will present the 275 sessions in 24 languages, with simultaneous interpreter feeds available through electronic devices.

Mongkol Tangmannaikit will talk in Thai about how the shortcut to success is hard work.

Kavita Bothra will speak in Hindi about how to build business by connecting with a community's centers of influence.

Othneil Duncombe will lecture in English about strategies for detecting buying signals.

What it means: MDRT members are still scouring the world for ideas about how to do well by serving clients better.

The event: Exact counts were not available at press time, but MDRT expects to attract more than 3,000 first-time attendees, according to Gregory Gagne, MDRT's 2024 president.

MDRT is reintroducing public relations workshops and one-on-one consultations. The group will also be presenting the results of new research on emotional intelligence.

The backdrop: The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the meetings for several years. Now, geopolitical tension is getting more attention.

"With all that's going on in the world, it can be tempting to isolate and withdraw from one another," Gagne said. "But it's during these times that it's most important to tap into international initiatives like the MDRT annual meeting."

MDRT study groups and mentorship arrangements can also help members learn from colleagues all around the world, Gagne said.

Do MDRT members have any ideas about how would-be peacemakers can sell everyone else on peace?

"While the details of client circumstances can be different, one constant we see is the importance of intentional communication," Gagne said. "Not only does communication help MDRT members, our clients, clients' families and businesses, it could also help the world work better together."
