How many insurance professionals in the U.S.? According to agentmethods.com, there were 911,400 licensed life (and health) agents, as of 2021. What is their average age? About 46 years, although here is another interesting number: 66% of all agents are over age 40. The average age of independent agents is 59 years. As we get older, we reach a level of comfort with technology. We get resistant to learning. This is bad for business. Let's look at reasons why. FYI: The acceptance of new technology and ideas can look like a bell shaped curve with five segments. Early adopters are in the second position from the start. Laggards are in the last position. Every so often, you encounter an agent or advisor who has stopped learning. They're sometimes derided as dinosaurs. You don't want to be grouped in that category. Credit: Adobe Stock
