Morningstar analysts are cautiously optimistic for both stocks and bonds as 2024 approaches, even accounting for heightened risk, Tyler Dann, head of research for the Americas, and David Sekera, chief U.S. market strategist, write in an end-of-year blog post. In equities, Dann and Sekera see opportunities in size, style, sector and country exposures. Targeted exposure is well placed to beat broad market-weight exposure, according to their analysis. For bonds, they see broad appeal across different maturity profiles. Government bonds are their preferred exposure. And as the U.S. dollar looks expensive in relation to other major currencies, investors may consider international currency positioning worthwhile, they suggest.
