To paraphrase the comedian Chris Rock, riches are money you can lose, while wealth can be passed down from generation to generation. Many celebrities have been wildly successful in converting the former to the latter. Celebrities invest $38 million per investment venture, on average, and a third have invested more than $100 million in a single business investment, according to a new analysis by Forex.com, a wholly owned trading platform subsidiary on Stone X Group Inc. To uncover where these high-profile singers, songwriters, influencers and other notables invest their money, Forex.com commissioned finance and trading experts to analyze the investments of 238 celebrities in various assets. The research showed that although YouTubers typically have the lowest net worth to initially invest, they generate a 13.6% return on their net worth, on average. Comedians tend to have the lowest returns on their net worth, 6.6%, on average. Athletes have the highest average net worth, but they are not the most successful investors, as they generate an average 9.8% return on their net worth. Singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett, who died in September at 76, would have been No. 2 on this list, with an 88.9% return on net worth in 2023, according to Forex.com. According to Forbes, Buffett was worth around $1 billion, including $570 million earned from tours and recording, a $50 million music catalog and $140 million in planes, homes and Berkshire Hathaway stock — on top of a 28% stake in Margaritaville Holdings, which offers restaurants, resorts and housing. As for Rock, he comes in at 98 on the list, with an estimated return of 8.6% on a $70 million net worth, including a stock portfolio worth about $20 million.
