Consumers made more than a thousand reports indicating problems trying to use the Chase Bank website Wednesday, according to Downdetector, a site that tracks outages at financial institutions and other businesses.

Several X (formerly Twitter) users reported that they were getting a malware warning message when trying to access the Chase website.

Reports of Chase website issues started spiking about 4 p.m. Eastern time, reaching 1,387 by 4:20, according to Downdetector, which noted the bank said at 4:10 it was checking into customer reports. They had fallen to just over 300 nearly a half-hour later.

Several X users posted screenshots of a warning they encountered when trying to log onto Chase that indicated the site contained malware and attackers might try to "install dangerous programs" on their computers.

"Google Safe Browsing recently detected malware on www.chase.com," one message said, according to a screenshot. The malicious content comes from static.chasecdn.com, the screenshot message said.

After 4:30 p.m., users on Downdetector posted that they were able to log in.

Chase media representatives didn't immediately respond to emails seeking comment.
