10 Biggest U.S. Banks in 2022

At year-end, the U.S. banking industry included roughly 4,800 commercial banks and savings institutions with more than $23 trillion in total assets: $20 trillion in deposits and $11 trillion in loans, according to ADV Ratings. These entities were staffed by 2.1 million employees. JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo are the biggest employers among the top 10 banks; the former with some 265,000 people serving customers in 4,900 branches, and the latter with 250,000 staff working in 6,700 branches. JPMorgan Chase is currently the only bank that can accept government deposits in all 50 U.S. states. Citigroup's Personal Banking & Wealth Management division serves 110 million customers in 19 countries and territories, with a special focus on the U.S., Mexico and Asia.
