This year is ending on a note of economic uncertainty for most Americans, and their financial struggles are likely to continue into 2023, fintech company SmartAsset said in a new report, referencing predictions of experts. Nevertheless, according to the report, some U.S. cities have thrived in recent years. To find the fastest-growing ones, researchers analyzed data for 494 of the biggest cities across metrics of population increases and growth of GDP, businesses and housing, the September unemployment rate and changes in unemployment over one year. They ranked each city in every metric, giving an equal weighting to all but two metrics: September unemployment rate and one-year change in unemployment rate (both half-weighted). They then found each city's average ranking. See the gallery for the 12 top boomtowns in the U.S., according to SmartAsset.
