The 500 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. on the 2022 Inc. 5000 list grew at a median revenue rate of 2,144% over the past three years — up from 1,820% for the 2021 list. As eye-watering as that figure is, the companies at the top of the list skyrocketed above their counterparts. "A strength runs through America's small businesses that defies the forces twisting our economy into such weird knots," Eric Hagerman, special projects editor at Inc., wrote in a blog post. Inc. ranked the companies on its 2022 list according to percentage revenue growth from 2018 to 2021. To qualify, companies had to have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2018. They had to be based in the U.S., privately held, for-profit and independent — not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies — as of Dec. 31, 2021. The minimum revenue required for 2018 was $100,000, and for 2021, $2 million. Researchers calculated growth rates used to determine company rankings to four decimal places.
