Dental Insurance Giant Names a President: Executive Changes

The board of Delta Dental of California and its affiliates has named Sarah Chavarria president.

The San Franciso-based nonprofit manages dental coverage for 40 million people. In addition to California, the company's market area includes Alabama, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Mike Castro has been and will continue to be the company's CEO.

Chavarria has been an executive vice president at the company and its chief people officer. Before she joined Delta Dental of California, in 2017, she served as a human resources executive at a number of employers, including Optum360, an affiliate of UnitedHealth Group.

She has a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at El Paso.

Ash Brokerage

Ash Brokerage — a Fort Wayne, Indiana-based distributor of life, long-term care, disability and retirement products —has hired Brian Lauber to be senior vice president of disability insurance.

He previously was regional director for individual disability insurance sales at The Standard. He also has worked in sales and marketing at Principal Financial and OneAmerica.

Lauber has a bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University. He holds the Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant professional designations.

Centivo

Centivo — a Buffalo, New York-based health insurer — has hired Tara Johnson to be general counsel.

Johnson previously was a senior associate general counsel at UnitedHealth's UnitedHealthcare unit. She also has worked for Excellus, and she began her career as an assistant district attorney for Monroe County, New York.

She has a bachelor's degree and a law degree from the University of Buffalo. She has been a Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Fellow and a Connecticut Bar Foundation James W. Cooper Fellow.

One Inc.

One Inc. — a Folsom, California-based insurance digital payment systems company — has hired Marc Liner to be its general counsel.

He previously was a senior counsel in the commercial banking division at Wells Fargo. He also has worked for about 10 years as the deputy general counsel at Bank of America Merchant Services.

He has a bachelor's degree and a law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
