Janney Montgomery Scott has hired Diane Gabriel, a former executive at Wells Fargo Advisors, as director of recruiting.

In the third quarter, Janney's Private Client Group added 21 financial advisors, the largest number in a single quarter since 2017. They collectively worked with some $3.1 billion in assets. Overall, eight joined from Truist, seven from Wells Fargo, four from Merrill, and one each from Raymond James and Ameriprise Financial.

Year to date in 2021, 48 advisors who together manage more than $9 billion in assets have joined the firm, which had about 850 advisors with $127.9 billion in assets under advisement as of Sept. 30.

"We're thrilled to have Diane join our team … [as] she brings a deep understanding of the recruiting process and the resources financial advisors need to grow their practice and support their clients. Her experience will build upon our strong recruiting strategy and momentum," said Jerry Lombard, president of the firm's Private Client Group, in a statement.

Gabriel began her career in 1982 as a financial advisor. Over the past 20 years, she has held various leadership positions at Wells Fargo. Most recently, she served as the head of Next Generation Talent at Wells Fargo Advisors and was also a member of the Operating Committee.

She also worked for Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network, the company's independent brokerage arm, and led its overall financial advisor experience, client service, transition and training, sales supervision, risk and operations administration.

"I'm looking forward to joining Janney at a time when an increasing number of financial advisors desire to join a firm with a boutique culture, client-centric service model, and industry-leading platform," Gabriel said in a press release.

Gabriel now reports to Caitlin Ulmer-Long, senior vice president, head of Private Client Group Administration. In addition, Jeff Smith, who led Janney's recruiting efforts since 2016, has transitioned to a regional leadership role as complex manager for the Baltimore region's three offices.

"We're pleased to welcome our new team members and look forward to continuing our recruiting momentum into the final quarter of 2021," according to Jerry Lombard, president of the firm's Private Client Group.
