Morningstar considers stocks slightly overpriced today. The median stock in the firm's North American coverage universe trades at a 4% premium to its fair value estimate, Susan Dziubinski, director of content for Morningstar.com, wrote in a recent blog post. U.S. stocks rose 8.4% in the second quarter, as measured by the Morningstar US Market Index. Less than 12% of the stocks the firm covers have Morningstar Ratings of four or five stars, she said, citing the latest stock market outlook of Dave Sekera, Morningstar's chief U.S. market strategist. "While we expect strong economic growth to last well into 2023, we think the markets have overextrapolated earnings growth too far into the future," Sekera said.
