Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company — a Springfield, Massachusetts-based life insurer with about $313 billion in insurance company assets — has picked Ying Yu to help it try to make the world a better place.
Yu will hold the newly created title of head of sustainability. She will oversee MassMutual's environmental, social and governance (ESG) efforts.
The life insurance company announced earlier this year that it hopes to reduce the net impact of its investments on the amount of carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere to 0 by 2050. Yu will be in charge of that effort, MassMutual said.
She previously was in charge of sustainability strategy at Prologis, a real estate investment trust with $148 billion in real estate assets.
Yu started out as a television news anchor in China, and then began to work as a software engineer in the United States in 1999. She began to get involved with sustainability at Bose Corp., when she was in charge of improving the company's supply chain strategy. She moved from that role, to become Bose's head of sustainability, from 2012 through 2020.
Yu has a bachelor's degree from Shandong University and a master's degree in computer science from Central Connecticut State University.
MassMutual also has named Julieta Sinisgalli to succeed Todd Picken, who has retired, as treasurer. Sinisgalli previously was an executive in MassMutual's finance organization.
She has a bachelor's degree in business from the Universidad Católica Argentina Buenos Aires.
In other personnel moves:
Lincoln Financial Group has named Elena French to be head of corporate marketing, communications and brand. French, who is a senior vice president at Lincoln, previously was the company's head of corporate communications.
She has a bachelor's degree from George Washington University.
