CFP Board Names Diversity & Inclusion Chief

Dawn Harris has been appointed as the director of Diversity & Inclusion for the Center for Financial Planning, a newly created position, according to the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.

Harris will be responsible for advancing diversity and inclusion programs and growing the number of diverse CFP professionals within the financial planning profession, the group says.

"CFP Board and the Center are committed to advancing a culture of diversity and inclusion throughout the financial planning workforce," said CFP Board CEO Kevin Keller in a statement.

"Dawn brings experience and skills that will strengthen our D&I strategic objectives and programs that help drive a more diverse financial profession," Keller explained.

Harris will report to Center Managing Director D.A. Abrams and will be the lead subject matter expert for the group's yearly Diversity Summit.

Career Background

She most recently served as managing director for D&I at the National Association for Stock Car Racing, where she expanded awareness, participation and support of NASCAR in diverse communities.

"Dawn possesses a strong record of leading and managing diversity programs and strengthening relationships with key stakeholders," Abrams said in the statement. "Her key responsibility is to expand access to competent and ethical financial planning by increasing the number of diverse CFP professionals."

As of Dec. 31, 2020, the number of female CFP professionals increased to  20,633, or roughly 23.3% of all CFP professionals — reflecting a growth rate of 3.1% since 2019.

Harris brings more than 15 years of experience in program development and execution, diversity and inclusion initiatives, community engagement and marketing.

She previously worked as the head of marketing for the Women's Foodservice Forum, Chicago, and as a marketing consultant for the Multicultural Foodservice & Hospitality Alliance in Minneapolis.
