John Hancock is building an incentive for getting vaccinated against COVID-19 into its John Hancock Vitality Program.
The Boston-based Manulife Financial Corp. division says it will award 400 Vitality points to any program member who submits proof of vaccination.
The move means that a John Hancock Vitality program participant may get as many points for getting vaccinated against COVID-19 as for getting an annual flu shot.
Sample Vitality points guides posted by agents and brokers a few years ago, when John Hancock started using the program, show that, in 2020, the program required 3,500 points for a member who wanted to reach silver status, 7,000 points for gold, and 10,000 points for platinum.
Going through an annual health review earned a member 500 points, and holding blood glucose to less than 100 milligrams per deciliter of blood earned 1,000 points.
A member with a high death benefit who reaches gold status may be able to qualify for perks such as 50% discounts on hotel stays.
John Hancock says it will support global COVID-19 vaccine acceptance by sending Vitality program members messages about the importance of the vaccine in promoting health.
