Marianne Caswell to Lead Guardian's Broker-Dealer: Personnel Moves

The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America has named Marianne Caswell president of its Park Avenue Securities LLC subsidiary.

Park Avenue Securities is a registered broker-dealer and investment advisor.

Caswell has been Guardian's head of practice development in agency distribution.

She is also president of Guardian's Innovative Underwriters subsidiary. The subsidiary is a brokerage general agency that offers financial professionals affiliated with Guardian access to products provided by companies other than Guardian.

Caswell has a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Canisius College.

Early in her career, she spent seven years at Citi. When she left, she was director of strategy and reengineering.

She joined Guardian in 2013, as second vice president for strategy at Park Avenue Securities.

In other personnel moves news:

Equitable Holdings Inc., New York, has hired Jose Ramon Gonzalez to be chief legal officer and corporate secretary.

Equitable is the parent of both Equitable and of AllianceBernstein.

Gonzalez will succeed Dave Hattem, who plans to retire later this year after working for Equitable for 26 years.

Gonzalez previously was executive vice president and general counsel at CNA Insurance.

Gonzalez has a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from the Columbia University.

He is chair of the LatinoJustice PRLDEF board. He is a member of the boards of The Bass Museum of Art and the Spain-U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

He began working in insurance company law at American International Group Inc.

He later worked at Torus and QBE North America before moving to CNA.

AmeriLife Group LLC, Clearwater, Florida, has hired Alex Lewis to be chief of staff.

AmeriLife distributes life insurance, health insurance and annuity products.

Lewis previously was chief of staff for Unum's chief information and digital officer.

Lewis has a bachelor's degree in math and economics from Furman University and a master's degree in enterprise architecture from The Pennsylvania State University.

Policygenius, New York, has hired Bill Shepherd to be its chief financial officer.

Policygenius sells insurance online.

Shepherd previously was head of corporate finance at Bridgewater Associates, a hedge fund.

Shepherd has bachelor's degrees in economics and civil engineering from Stanford University. He is a member of the leadership council of The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

Shepherd started out at J.P. Morgan. When he left, he was a managing director in the company's private wealth management business. He also served as vice president, mergers and acquisitions, at the company.

Shepherd later was the chief financial officer for the global wealth and investment management business at Bank of America.

In related news, Policygenius has hired Jeannie Kim to be vice president and general manager of content.

Kim previously was vice president of content at The Muse, a job listings and career news and information website.

Kim has a bachelor's degree in English from Harvard.

She started out as a deputy editor at Redbook. She later spent 10 years as a freelance writer, then worked as an editor at Time Inc.'s health publications. She left Time to become the co-founder of and chief content officer at Samada, a portal for caregivers.

She began working for The Muse in 2018.
