MindBody, a technology platform for the wellness industry, just published its Top 10 list of healthiest American cities as part of its 2021 Mindbody Wellness Index. The index looks at American wellness across all seven dimensions: physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, environmental, social and occupational. The MindBody study evaluated the 50 largest cities in the U.S. by population, and ranked them from most to least healthy through a proprietary scoring algorithm. Researchers factored in how much city residents exercise, how stressed they are, the amount of rest they get, how many of them smoke, how much alcohol they drink and their body mass index as defined by the Centers for Disease Control. They also looked at how close they are with friends and family, how connected they feel to their communities and whether they feel spiritually fulfilled. "Even in a pandemic environment, we found several cities in the top 10 hailing from states that had or continue to have some of the nation's most severe restrictions on business activity," Mindbody's chief executive Josh Carter said in a statement. "The Mindbody Wellness Index validates the assumptions we had going into this research study and that is that Americans are highly invested in their health and wellness routines across a variety of dimensions." In addition to the city rankings, the index identified five wellness trends predictions for the New Year. The most in demand wellness trends for 2021:
