Rockefeller Capital Management says a team from Merrill Lynch that includes two advisors and about $550 million in client assets has joined it in Chicago.

CM Private Wealth is led by Bill Colwyn and Dan Mendelson. It includes COO Michelle McCabe. Colywyn has been in the business for 21 years and spent the past 12 years at Merrill, while Mendelson has 22 years of industry experience and all with Merrill for 12 years.

"There is a steadily growing need across the country for entrepreneurial advisors who can offer customized solutions to clients with complex financial lives and challenges," according to Chris Randazzo, president of Private Wealth Management for Rockefeller. "Rockefeller is meeting this need in an increasing number of locations with the industry's finest advisors like CM Private Wealth."

The firm's latest recruiting news comes two months after a $400 million group joined it from Morgan Stanley near Phoenix. Rockefeller has 40 teams, 25 of which came on board in 2020. The firm's advisors work with about $50 billion of total client assets.

Rockefeller CEO Greg Fleming is the former president of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management and Morgan Stanley Investment Management.

Before joining Morgan Stanley in 2010, Fleming was president and chief operating officer of Merrill Lynch, from 2007 to 2009, and previously ran Merrill Lynch's Global Investment Banking business; he joined Merrill as an investment banker in 1992.
