Transamerica's Parent Hires a Change Manager: Personnel Moves

Aegon N.V. — the parent of Transamerica — has hired Duncan Russell to be its chief transformation officer.

The role is new.

Aegon is based in The Hague, in the Netherlands, and manages the equivalent of about $1 trillion in assets.

Russell will report to Lard Friese, Aegon's chief executive officer, and will be a member of Aegon's board.

Russell previously was chief financial officer of Admiral Financial Services, an arm of Admiral Group PLC of the United Kingdom.

Russell has a degree from the University of Bristol. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst professional designation.

He got his start in insurance as an analyst at Fox-Pitt, Kelton. Later, he was a managing director at J.P. Morgan.

In other insurance personnel moves news:

The Armed Forces Benefit Association (AFBA), Alexandria, Virginia, and an AFBA affiliate, the 5Star Life Insurance Company, have named Michael Wong chief distribution officer.

Wong previously was a senior vice president at AFBA.

Wong has a bachelor's degree from the Virginia Military Institute. He earned an Air Force officer commission. He served as a squadron officer in the U.S. Air Force Reserve for 11 years.

He holds the Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant  professional designations.

AFBA is an association that provides survivor benefits for its members; 5Star Life underwrites the AFBA survivor benefits.

The Advocator Group LLC, Wakefield, Massachusetts, says its chief executive officer, Michael Shunney, is now chief executive officer of a company subsidiary, Professional Disability Associates, Portland, Maine,

Shunney has been an executive at The Advocator Group since 2014.

The Advocator Group — an arm of Brown & Brown Inc. — helps clients get through the Social Security Disability Insurance benefits application process, and it also helps clients choose Medicare plans.

Professional Disability Associates provides medical reviews, claim administration services and other support services and consulting services for disability insurance providers.

The Advocator Group acquired Professional Disability Associates in 2018.

Shunney has bachelor's degree from Merrimack College. Before begoin to work for The Advocator Group, he spent 13 years at U.S. units of Sun Life Financial.

Kevin Riley has been Professional Disability Associates' interim chief executive officer. He will become senior vice president, customer experience, according to The Advocator Group.

AmeriHealth Caritas, Philadelphia, has named Harish Nakra chief data officer and Vinod Swarna chief analytics officer.

AmeriHealth Caritas is a Medicaid managed care company that's part of the group of companies that includes Independence Blue Cross of Philadelphia.

Nakra previously was head of the enterprise data office at Health Care Service Corp., which is the parent of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in Illinois and Texas.

Nakra has a master's degree in information systems from Eastern Michigan University and a master's degree in business from the Institute for Integrated Learning in Management.

Swarna previously was a vice president at Magellan Health. Earlier held positions at Aetna Inc. and at CVS.

Swarna has a bachelor's degree in genetics and a master's degree in computer science from Osmania University. He has master's degrees in biostatistics and computational biostatistics from Arizona State University.

Zipari Inc., Brooklyn, New York, has hired John Walsh to be its chief technology officer.

Walsh previously was chief technology officer at the company group that includes Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey.

He previously worked as a technology executive at Blue Cross and Blue Shield carriers in New York state.

He has a bachelor's degree in information technology from the University of Limerick.

Lockton Companies, Kansas City, Missouri, has hired Richard Pan to be managing director at its Lockton Capital Markets unit.

Pan previously worked in investment management at Waterfall Asset Management, where he worked with insurers and reinsurers, along with other clients.

He has a bachelor's degree from Princeton and a law degree from the University of Michigan. He started out working on insurance, reinsurance and derivatives transactions at Mayer Brown LLP.

Cassaday & Company Inc., McLean, Virginia, has hired Benjamin Dorsey to be director of tax services.

Cassaday & Company is a wealth management firm.

Dorsey previously was a partner at Court Place Advisors LLC in Ellicott City, Maryland.

He has a bachelor's degree from Towson University and a law degree from the University of Baltimore.

He holds the Certified Financial Planner and Certified Public Accountant professional designations.
