A life insurer that has been building a new stand-alone long-term care insurance (LTCI) business says it's expanding marketing efforts this year.

National Guardian Life Insurance Company has hired Joe Guyotte to be national sales manager for individual markets at its specialty insurance markets unit.

Guyotte is working with marketing organizations to promote National Guardian Life's EssentialLTC LTCI product as well as its Medicare supplement insurance policies, the company says.

Guyotte previously was vice president of national accounts at Genworth Life Insurance Company.

National Guardian Life says it will also be supporting its LTCI product this year with technology system updates and new sales and marketing plans.

A rating agency A.M. Best, recently affirmed the Madison, Wisconsin-based company's A- financial strength rating and increased the rating outlook to positive, from stable.

National Guardian Life's balance sheet strength is very strong, and it has appropriate enterprise risk management, the rating agency says.

National Guardian Life gets much of its revenue from sales of products such as preneed insurance and sales of single-premium immediate annuities.
