Maryland Insurance Commissioner Al Redmer Jr. has named Jay Coon deputy commissioner for the Maryland Insurance Administration. Coon previously was second vice president and commercial portfolio lead – agent workstation at Travelers Insurance Co., (Related: Standard Insurance Names Individual Annuity Head: Personnel Moves) Coon has a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Connecticut. He started out in insurance at Aetna Life & Casualty. He later worked for USF&G before joining Travelers. Redmer has also named Dytonia Reed assistant director of government relations. Reed previously an attorney advisor for the U.S. Social Security Administration. She previously worked at the University of Maryland University College's Office of Legal Affairs, Morgan State University's Office of the General Counsel, and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LP. Reed has a bachelor's degree in political science and human rights from Columbia University, a master's degree in legal and ethical studies from the University of Baltimore and a law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law, where she was community services director for the Black Law Students Association. In other personnel moves news: AmeriLife Group LLC has named Derek Richardson executive vice president, distribution development, and Scotty Elliott president, life & health brokerage distribution. Richardson previously was president of the Clearwater, Florida-based insurance distributor's brokerage division. In his new role, one of his duties will be to identify potential acquisition targets, AmeriLife says. Elliott began working for AmeriLife as a senior vice president. Before that, he was the chief executive officer of One Life, a final expense arrangement agency. Elliott will be in charge of increasing sales through AmeriLife's existing distribution network. FBL Financial Group Inc. has added three executives to its executive management team. The West Des Moines, Iowa-based life insurer promoted Daniel Koster to vice president - marketing & agency services, from vice president marketing & sales services; Ronald Mead, vice president - sales & distribution, from vice president personal lines & agriculture; and Jay Seiboldt, chief operating officer - property casualty companies, from vice president - property casualty companies. The National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies has hired Katie Fehlinger and Nona Phinn. The Fairfax, Virginia-based group is starting the ID Network video channel. Fehlinger will be the network's executive producer and on-air host. Fehlinger spent 15 years as an on-air meteorologist for CBS3 in Philadelphia. Nona Phinn will be a communications consultant and content production support provider for NAILBA's website, magazine, member communications, and public relations efforts.
