Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company and Symetra Life Insurance Company have announced major sports sponsorship deals this week.

MassMutual will be asking its financial advisors to help make use of a new relationship with the National Hockey League.

The Springfield, Massachusetts-based life insurer will be the Official Life Insurance and Retirement Planning Partner of the NHL.

MassMutual will also present an NHL Most Valuable Hockey Mom contest. Fans will be able to nominate moms who have shown unusual levels of support for hockey from now through May 3. The winning mom and a guest will get a free trip to an awards ceremony in Las Vegas.

The National Hockey League says it will also feature MassMutual prominently at events such as the NHL Winter Classic, the NHL Stadium Series, the NHL All-Star Weekend, and the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Symetra, meanwhile, has announced a 10-year partnership with the Seattle Storm, a Women's National Basketball Association basketball team.

Symetra — a Bellevue, Washington-based unit of Sumitomo Life Insurance Company of Osaka — says its logo will now appear on the upper left-hand shoulder of the Storm players' home and away jerseys.

Symetra will become the Official Life Insurer of the Seattle Storm, and it will work with the Seattle Storm on charitable events.

Symetra will present the team's Inspiring Women Night. The team uses the night to honor women who have contributed to strengthening Seattle.
