Carson Group has hired Jamie Hopkins to serve as director of retirement research and head of private client services. Earlier, Hopkins was an associate professor of taxation in The American College of Financial Services' retirement income program.

In his new roles, Hopkins will work on building a retirement-planning research group for Carson Group advisor firms, which will host investor-focused seminars and webinars, share articles and provide other thought leadership, according to the company. He also will serve as a special resource to partner firms and their clients.

"Jamie fills a gap in our advisor offering and represents yet another move we're making to enhance the support and resources we feel will set our advisors apart," according to Carson Group Executive Vice President Aaron Schaben.

"He's one of several industry influencers we plan to add to our growing organization in 2019," Schaben said.

Hopkins, an attorney, also was the director of the New York Life Center for Retirement Income. He also held the Larry R. Pike Chair in Insurance and Investments at The American College and helped launch the Retirement Income Certified Professional designation, a program with over 6,000 graduates (since its inception in 2012) and more than 12,000 advisors currently enrolled.

"There's a huge need for more education on retirement income planning and other specialty areas of financial advice, and Carson shares my passion for transforming the way advisors deliver value to clients," according to Hopkins, a certified financial planner.

Carson Group's businesses are Carson Wealth, Carson Group Coaching and Carson Group Partners. It trades securities via Cetera Advisor Networks.
