Brandon Carter has now taken over as the chair of the board of LL Global, the organization that oversees LIMRA and LOMA.

Carter is the president of USAA Life Insurance Company. He succeeds Michael Doughty, the president of Manulife Canada.

The board of LL Global typically chooses its incoming chair a year ahead of time and makes that individual the vice chair.

The new vice chair of the Windsor, Connecticut-based organization is Jill McGruder, the chief marketing officer at Western & Southern Financial Group.

LIMRA conducts market research and other forms of research for life insurance companies and other financial services companies.

LOMA conducts research and engages in other activities to help its member companies improve their operations.

LIMRA and LOMA merged, and formed the LL  Global umbrella organization, in 2010.

LIMRA has about 600 members, and LOMA has about 900 members.

Carter said in a statement that LIMRA's own research shows that 45% of Americans have no life insurance, and that 70% of pre-retirees feel unprepared for retirement.

"LIMRA and LOMA help their members understand the factors driving these trends and provide critical insights that help them reach consumers in need of the financial protection offered through life insurance and other financial products," Carter said in the statement. "I look forward to working with the board and the incoming CEO to continue this organization's important work."
