Reliance Standard Life Insurance Company is preparing to move its headquarters to a bigger location in Philadelphia by the end of 2020.

The company says it will be moving to a 151,000-square-foot space at 1700 Market St. in Philadelphia, from its current, 138,000-square-foot space at 2001 Market St.

Reliance Standard — a company in the Tokio Marine Group — has been especially active in the U.S. group disability, group life, voluntary benefits, absence management, and annuity markets.

Reliance Standard has been based in Philadelphia since 1982.

Reliance Standard has about 600 employees in Pennsylvania, and it hopes to add about 127 positions over the next three years, according to state officials.

Jones Lang LaSalle Inc., the real estate firm that helped Reliance Standard make the move, says the company could fit as many as 180 additional employees in the new offices.

Correction: An earlier version of this article gave the name name of the insurer involved incorrectly. The name is Reliance Standard.
