Danica Patrick — the most successful female driver in the history of racing — is returning this month as the spokesperson for the Life Insurance Awareness Month campaign.

Life Happens will be offering awareness campaign materials featuring Patrick on its website through the end of the year, as it promotes a new "financial journey" theme.

Patrick talks about the importance of life insurance in video on Life Happens' website.

"It's part of your journey," Patrick says in the video. "It's one more thing you can do to take burden off of you."

Patrick, 36, was born in Beloit, Wisconsin, and grew up in Roscoe, Illinois. She now lives in Phoenix. She has been racing since parents bought her a go-kart when she was 10.

Patrick has been a driver in the IndyCar Series and in NASCAR. She won the Indy Japan 300 in 2008.

Patrick said in a recent interview that the topic of life insurance rarely comes up when she's with her friends, and that she rarely notices commercials from life insurers when she's watching TV.

She said she thinks most people need to make getting life insurance in place part of an overall planning strategy, so they get the job done and have a policy in place if the worse happens.

"It's the one if you need it, you need it the most," Patrick said.
