If you have clients going overseas, or who are coming to the United States, as expats, there's a good chance that they will be looking to secure international medical insurance to help cover any costs of medical care while they are abroad.

Inevitably, the most important or common question asked around this type of cover is how much it will cost.

To help answer this question, my firm, Pacific Prime, recently released its third annual Cost of International Health Insurance -report. We look at the average cost of international private medical insurance plans in 100 countries popular with expats.

How much will expats pay for international health insurance?

To derive the average cost of medical insurance, we combined data from 10 of the top international providers. With each provider, premiums were pulled for four common expat demographics (individuals, couples, families, and retirees), along with three levels of coverage for each demographic.

One thing brokers may find intriguing is that almost all of the countries with the 10 highest average premium costs are popular destinations for American expats.

In our report, we also look at why international health insurance is so expensive, at the cost of international health insurance premiums in the United States, and at a surprising finding: in some countries, the average cost of international health insurance is lower this year than it was in 2016.
