Anthony Scaramucci, President Donald Trump's new communications director, said during a Friday afternoon press conference–his first day on the job–that he "loves the president," and that he supports the president's use of social media.

"He'll use social media," said Scaramucci, the former Wall Street veteran who co-founded hedge fund SkyBridge Capital and co-hosted Wall Street Week, adding that Trump has millions of twitter followers now and is gaining roughly "300,000 followers per day."

Trump's tweets are a "very effective use of reaching the American public directly," Scaramucci said, adding that it's "very important for him to express his identity. It's very important for President Trump to be President Trump."

Noting his 29-year career on Wall Street, Scaramucci said that he believes in "a lot of collaboration." While he's been told by Trump that he reports directly to the president, Scaramucci said that he has "no problem" working with White House Chief of Staff Reince Preibus, stating that "it would be foolish for me not to communicate with him."

Responding to a question about his legal background and how he'd use that during his tenure at the White House, Scaramucci said he would "make sure we're on message and handling ourselves in the most appropriate way possible."

Scaramucci also said he wants to work with White House Chief Strategist Steven Bannon "as closely as I can."

A former Trump advisor, the new communications chief announced on Jan. 17 that SkyBridge Capital, the $12 billion alternative investment firm that he founded, would be purchased by RON Transatlantic EG and HNA Capital (U.S.) Holding.

A graduate of Harvard Law School, Scaramucci has also been a vocal opponent of the Department of Labor's fiduciary rule.

At the inaugural Pershing Advisor Solutions Elite Advisor Summit in Aventura, Florida, in early March, the hedge fund manager and Goldman Sachs alumnus also spoke bluntly about Labor's fiduciary rule, telling advisors why he "hates" it.

In terms of how financial-services firms are reacting to the news, DoubleLine Capital CEO Jeffrey Gundlach said on Twitter: "Congratulations to my friend Anthony Scaramucci on being named WH Communications Director!"
