The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has scheduled five webinars for agents and brokers who want to get certified as HealthCare.gov producers for 2018.

CMS has scheduled webinars for returning producers for 1 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time July 21 and July 27, and webinars for producers who are new to HealthCare.gov for 1 p.m. EDT July 20 and July 26.

CMS has also scheduled a webinar on changes to its producer training system for 1 p.m. EDT July 19.

CMS, an arm of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has posted information about the webinars here.

HealthCare.gov now has 68,785 certified producers, according to the public producer registration database. That total is down from 93,640 for the 2016 open enrollment period.

CMS noted that its producer training system will go close at 12:01 p.m. EDT July 12, as managers work to get the system ready for the 2018 open enrollment period.

Policymakers in Washington are still deciding how health coverage will work in 2018.

HHS set up HealthCare.gov to handle Affordable Care Act public health insurance exchange enrollment and account administration services for states that were unwilling or unable to handle those tasks. HealthCare.gov is on track to handle individual exchange plan enrollment in 39 states in 2018.

The HealthCare.gov open enrollment period for 2018 is set to begin Nov. 1 and end Dec. 15.

CMS recently posted a 2018 HealthCare.gov issuer update that implied that HealthCare.gov could offer plans from a total of about 100 issuers in 2018, down from 141 this year.

Many carriers have stopped paying commissions for enrollments completed outside the open enrollment period, and it's not clear how many of the issuers that could participate in HealthCare.gov in 2018 would pay agents commissions or fees.
