Kyle Imhof, director of technology at Clintsman Financial Planning, helped transform the firm from one where most processes were heavily manual to an almost 100% digital firm. Imhof is one of three winners of Envestnet's inaugural Essential Advisor awards, which were announced at its annual conference in May.

Envestnet designed the Essential Advisor Certification Program with help from Cannon Financial Institute, Inc. to help advisors guide clients through important investment decisions. The program builds on values outlined in a book co-authored by Envestnet President Bill Crager, "The Essential Advisor:  Building Value in the Investor-Advisor Relationship."

The awards recognize advisors who bring those values to their practice. They were selected by a panel of Envestnet executives based on qualitative and subjective surveys and nominations from regional directors.

"A big part of our methodology and our mission is serving other people," Imhof told former Editor-in-Chief Jamie Green at the conference in May. "You hear that word use a lot in our industry, but the way that manifests itself in our practice is attempting to educate the client. We view ourselves as a teaching institution."
